Recently at the second half of last year in 2009, I was very fortunate to be acquainted with Boyd Au.

As a budding business owner and being in the trenches for about 2 years, the opportunity to learn from a successful businessman like Boyd Au was not something to be missed!

During the 2 full days seminar, Boyd guided us through relevant real life examples of businesses that needed a strong turnaround.

As the first class was small, we were lucky enough to actually gain personalized business consulting/review session with him where he analyzed thoroughly the underlying strength and weaknesses of our business plan.

Have you ever read a book and thought it rang so true – giving you that much-sought after life perspective you’ve been searching your whole life?

That’s how I felt after I read this book from cover to cover.

There was one particular chapter in the book that when I read it gave me some chills and kept me awake at night. That particular chapter is related to Einstein, the Universe and a particular scientifically-proven law of physics.It’s been a long time that a non-fiction book can move one so deeply but this book did!

I have to admit the title is a misnomer: the book is never about “turning a profit” or “how to get rich” book.

In fact it actually points you that the road to financial freedom actually lies in the area between your ears and deep within your heart.

Chris asks you to examine your inner thoughts and value systems through various NLP exercises.

As you go through the exercises faithfully, your natural being will start to change. You begin to understand that people struggle financially because they act as if wealth is something outside of themselves over which they have no power.

How important is the visibility of your website to your current customers? Perhaps not much especially if your customers already know you and are currently buying from you.

Rephrasing that question: How important is the visibility of your website to your POTENTIAL customers?

Potential customers who may know already what they are looking for but because of your lack of visibility online, they never managed to discover about you because your website is located somewhere in a Search Results Page that is far, far away from Page 1.

Just imagine – you are losing out on potential clients because your website was never optimized to be found and ranked highly by search engines.

With the Internet being so prevalent in our lives and the phrase “I will Google for that information” being part of common vocabulary, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) knowledge is a very valuable skill to possess. It is both a science and an art to be able to be position oneself on top of major search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN) results page.

Being an avid learner, I took the chance to finally invest in myself to attend Advanced Search Engine Optimization 5-Day Workshop conducted by Fabian Lim. Held at SMU on the 16 to 20 April 2009, it was one of the most tiring but yet enlightening seminars I’ve attended.

Before attending the seminar, all participants are required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. I can see why – the strategies taught there are really powerful and truly commands the premium investment of almost $4000. With great power, comes great responsibility! LOL.

At the end of the 5 days, all participants had to take an online exam to test the knowledge learned. To become certified in Advanced Search Engine Marketing and Top SEO Placement (awarded by Search Engine Workshops), a participant has to score at least 75%. Gratefully, despite a lack of sleep and falling sick on the last day – I managed to score 96%! Yay for me.

Fabian shared and engaged participants on the theory and practicals of SEO plus software tools that can help propel a website ranking upwards. It’s been almost 2 months since 20 April and I have been applying all the strategies taught faithfully. Its absolutely fantastic to see the work I done on clients’ websites achieving greater visibility in search engines.

I have a background of web site design of more than 6 years and I like to believe that I know almost every trick in the book on getting listed in search engines. But even for me – a seasoned web content developer – I’m blown away by the results I’ve seen in these 2-3 months since applying them.

What I learnt is really a valuable skill set – one can say that the SEO strategies learnt gave me an exact road map to get to the top of search engine results.

Cashflow 101 Competition: What A Turnout!

The Cashflow 101 Competition was great fun! Even on a Sunday morning, the exceptional turnout was impressive at Singapore Expo Hall 4. With over 600 people turning up and seated at over a hundred tables, the competition was well-underway by 9.30am.

Facilitated by one of the Rich Dad Advisors himself, Kelly Ritchie – it was fun to watch how participants played this game that closely reflects your attitude towards wealth generation.

After a brief introduction to the rules of the game, the game started off with great gusto thanks to the enthusiasm of the large crowd.

There is no doubt everyone wants to become rich but those who actually make it are so little. Some might even have asked these questions to themselves many times:

How come I’m not earning enough money?
How do I get paying clients that stick with me? Is my business model working right?
How come no matter how hard I work and earn, it is never enough?

As you play the game, you are presented with business opportunities (additional stream of income) or setbacks (being retrenched) or a new addition to the family (additional expenses).

Some players were retrenched three times in a row (really really bad dice throw) but surprisingly enough despite the early setbacks – there were those who actually managed to escape the rat race! Their passive income easily exceeded their expenses and liabilities. It was quite clear who will win the game.

The reason was that they clearly acknowledged and took advantage of business opportunities or great bargains (like an undervalued stock or property) presented to them. They took action and didn’t hesitate to create another stream of cash to come in.

The next question of course comes in: how do you train yourself to identify such opportunities when they come by? One way is of course through education and picking the right mentors to learn from. A clear example is of course Mr Bellum Tan who rose from humble beginnings to set up Rich Dad Asia and became a millionaire a few times over in the process. I’m sure one can easily guess who his mentors are.

The Cashflow game closely mirrors real life – life is just as unpredictable as the throw of the dice. It is said how you play the game reflects your mindset towards wealth creation. But one thing clear in the minds of the people who were present was that a single source of income is not a guarantee. In fact, it is a great risk especially in times of recession like now – to just depend on a single job.

It was a lovely and educational atmosphere to be in with every person taking away valuable lessons on cashflow importance and generating different income streams. And the winners clearly deserved their complimentary tickets to meet Robert Kiyosaki and his team of advisors who will be coming in May to Singapore!

In advance, do forgive me for writing this utterly frivolous article. It’s the first time I’m writing at SeminarEventReview.com. I’m sure people are tired of reading the same old “economy in recession” news.

As I try my best to not pass out from the thick atmosphere of lovey-doveyness of today, I’m reminded of the ground-breaking Social Intelligence book by Daniel Goleman. The book is really quite engaging especially the chapters on what happens to the brain when people fall in love.

There are some chemicals involved like dopamine which provides the addictive quality of love – it injects intense pleasure into the brain’s circuitry. There is also oxytocin that when formed goes direct to the brain receptors which are responsible for making very rapid, intuitive judgements about someone when we are meeting for the first time.

Oh yes, apparently these chemicals when formed bypasses the usual gates of rational thought. I think the researchers call it the “Love at first sight” syndrome.

You must be thanking me right now for making science and brain chemistry making the whole life-changing event looking entirely “unromantic”.

To me, everyday should be a Valentine’s Day. Treat your loved one as the special one each and everyday- you should never need a day to remind yourself.

And for those singletons, it is time to show appreciation for yourself. Treat yourself better today. Remember it is true that we cannot give what we don’t have. But if we’re filled to overflowing with love within ourselves, then it will spill over to others without us even trying. But when we’re empty, then we’ll look to others to fill us but unfortunately we won’t be able to give.

Since our feelings radiate from inwards, to give love to others means to have love within ourselves first.

Yes I was sad during my break-up. But most important I had fun since then. I realized I had love all around me from friends and family. I know that sometimes loss is part of love. And that ultimately, love starts with me.

And finally today was special because one of my best friends in life just called me to inform she was was getting engaged. Congratulations darling, your happy news really put a big smile on my face tonight. Thank you for sharing this happy news with yours truly!
